How to Submit an Entry to the Guide
The wonderful thing about the Guide is the sheer variety of the entries
that make it up. People from all over the world have contributed, and
we'd like you to add your own little zany pinch of ingredients to the mix!
Entries can be on any subject you like, but are most likely to be accepted
if they are humorous and/or related to Science-Fiction, Fantasy or one of
the ever-popular subjects of Sex, Drugs, Rock'n'Roll or Alcohol. It's also
a good idea to choose a subject that's NOT already been covered
- there's a fairly complete list of existing entries in the
Index to Sample Pages. The Guide even accepts
advertising (if the subject is suitable) in return for a small donation to
the charity at the next convention.
To submit an entry, you can click here
to fill in a form on-line, or email your entry to us, send it by surface mail
or even deliver it by hand, if you really want to take the chance of bumping
into the dreadful Hodgesaargh! in person. Your entry should comply with the
following guidelines:
-
Entry should be PLAIN TEXT (ASCII) ONLY -
in case we don't have the right version of software to read it. The
entry can be any size you want (the shortest
entry so far is one character long and the longest is about 10KB).
-
Must have a TITLE - maximum 40 characters. Preferably one not already covered,
why not check the Index first!
-
Can also have a SUBTITLE (optional), which can be a bit longer.
-
Name (or pseudonym) of CONTRIBUTOR. (If you prefer to remain anonymous,
which is quite understandable with some of the entries we get, just put
"Anon".)
-
You may like to include your NAME & EMAIL or POSTAL
ADDRESS in case the Editor wants to send you a
Body Debit Card.
-
Send us pictures only if the subject demands it, in .GIF or .JPG format,
but PLEASE nothing larger than say 50KB by email, it can be very
annoying to get large downloads in the email. Be nice to us. If you have a
really good file you want to send us, please put it on storage media and post
it to us. Remember there are great shareware products like Paintshop Pro that
you can use to reduce the size of a picture, save it as compressed JPEG etc.
-
Same goes for sound files: small .WAV files under 25KB are funny, 2MB of
dialogue from an episode of Babylon 5 could get you a very rude reply!

Postal entries should preferably be in PC-readable (.TXT) format on a CD/DVD, cheapie memory card/stick
or for surviving IT pioneers from the 20th century, a 3.5" floppy disk (or even at a stretch a 5.25"),
paper entries may be ignored if too hard to scan or type in! Enclose your name and address and the correct
postage if you want us to try to return it, but we can't accept any responsibility for non arrival.
Carefully-packed 20GB or larger IDE or SATA hard disks are also very acceptable but unfortunately are
absolutely non-returnable.
You can send in as many entries as you want as often as you want, and if
your entries are very numerous, interesting or funny (and you remembered
to enclose your postal address) the
IdiotEditor may reward you
with a genuine plastic 'Body Debit Card'
as described in the radio series of Douglas Adams' "Hitch-Hiker's
Guide to the Galaxy"
